This is where it all began, not too long ago (in 2009). May and Ee Vee met at university in Melbourne, Australia. They bonded over a shared disdain for deadlines, a penchant for late-night KFC and a love for the good life. Both went on to successful careers in the tobacco and the cosmetics industries respectively. Midway through their ascent up the corporate ladder, an accidental reunion in London sparked a conversation about taking risks and seeking new adventures.
Upon their return to Kuala Lumpur, The Last Polka was born — it was a meeting of worlds; nostalgia and innovation, French-style ice cream and Asian flavours. They pioneered the artisan ice cream movement in the city, and today their ice cream is available at 20+ locations around Kuala Lumpur. Ee Vee has since left the business, pursuing her other passion of handmade ceramics at @thirty3eleven, but both founders remain the best of friends and Ee Vee retains her casual position as tastemaker and occasional dispenser of wisdom.
